The Love Of God

The Song

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

My Thoughts

Sometimes the Love of God is overwhelming.

Not only did Jesus die for our sins, but He came willingly.

We think of God sending His Son Jesus to earth as a baby, so He could grow and mature in the same ways we do.

But I think Jesus volunteered to go.

This verse takes on new meaning if we use the word allowed in place of gave or sent.

For God so loved the world, that he gave (allowed) his only begotten Son (to stand in our place,) that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

My thought comes from this verse, God was not alone in Heaven.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26

He created us and put us in charge.

Then God's love was so great He gave each of us a free will,
so we could do as we please.
Big mistake! We sure can make a mess of our lives!

But God's love reaches down and fixes it, if we let Him.
